The Gatemaker

The third part of the trilogy opens in the suburb of Crumlin in one of the new corporation estates where the Dancer now lives.

This novel explores the lives of his three sons, Herbert (The Gatemaker), George (The Gambler) and Charlie. From prosperity to poverty, the characters are made to face up to the often terrible consequences of their own actions, evoking a moving and elegiac testament of Dublin and Belfast in the years during and after the second world war.
